Communist guerrillas kill militiaman, briefly hold Philippine villagers

TABUK, Philippines - Communist guerrillas attacked a pro-government militia outpost in a remote northern Philippine mountain province, killing a militiaman and briefly holding several villagers as they were being chased by troops, an army general said Sunday. Read more here...

The communists held the families of the CAFGUs (government militiamen) and threatened to kill their families if they don't surrender. It did not happen though when military reinforcements arrived but still used the civilians as cover when they escaped.

On that day also (July 22) communist guerrillas ambushed a convoy of Philippine Army in Barangay Mallango, Tinglayan, Kalinga. Many soldiers were seriously wounded. They were rushed to the Kalinga provincial hospital, about 60 km away, for treatment.
